The Wetaskiwin Soccer Club needs to send out a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who did their part to make the Third Annual Spirit Cup Tournament a great success! We lucked out with the weather again for the third year in a row, with the thunderstorms rolling right around us on Friday night to allow us to keep our schedules on time!
Most of all, we need to thank each and every player, parent, coach, and referee who worked so hard to make this weekend possible. We especially appreciate the support of the teams who traveled a great distance to join us this year. Our players are the reason we are all here, and we hope to see you back next year in the battle for the #SpiritCup2019!
Thank you to all of the volunteers who gave their time to help with the set up and take down of the event - this was no easy task. Also sending out a big thank you to our amazing group of volunteers who kept Command Centre running through the weekend. You all did amazing and we are so grateful for your commitment to the tournament! We TRULY could not do it without you!
Thank you to the sponsors who made this weekend possible with their donations to participant bags, teams, and monetary donations towards event entertainment!
Adams Chevrolet Buick GMC, ATB Financial Wetaskiwin, Baker Funeral Chapel, Best Western Wayside Inn, Boston Pizza, Canadian Tire Jumpstart, Canadian Tire Wetaskiwin, City of Wetaskiwin, Coach's Source for Sports, Edmonton International Raceway, Encompass Credit Union Wetaskiwin, Manluk Industries, Manluk Centre: Wetaskiwin Regional Aquatics & Fitness, No Frills, R&D Excavation, Sport Chek Wetaskiwin Mall, TD Canada Trust, Value Drug Mart, Wetaskiwin Co-op, Women of the Moose, Xtreme Holdings Mobile Service
Thank you to Cornerstone Pub Wetaskiwin for returning with your BBQ for a second year, and for adding a few more healthy choices for our young players! We received several compliments on the lunch options and we so appreciate your support!
Thank you to our newest frozen addition: Via Cocoa Creamery! Your hand-crafted, chocolate dipped ice cream was such a decadent treat for our players on this HOT weekend! We sincerely hope you will join us again next year to give our visitors a REAL TREAT!
Thank you to Kate Wyles Whenham for painting some beautiful, cute, fierce, and scary (the sound effects that went with those vampires made me jump out of my skin!) soccer players this weekend! The joy on the kids' faces make it all worthwhile!
Thank you to our newest addition: Wetaskiwin 'Rocks' (Susan Kokas) for allowing our players to express their creativity through free rock painting! Art and Sports don't often go hand-in-hand, but when we give the opportunity for kids to express themselves, the outcome can be just amazing! We also can't forget to put a plug in for the FREE Wetaskiwin Arts & Music Festival coming up on June 23, 2018 at By the Lake Park! Thank you for joining us Susan!
Thank you to Constable Christine Hepburn with the Wetaskiwin RCMP for joining us on Saturday and giving our players the chance to meet a REAL LIFE super hero! I heard from lots of kids (and adults) how cool it was to see the inside of a police car, and snap some photos while they're at it!
Spirit Award Winners:
Congratulations to all of our Spirit Award Winners! The reason that you were singled out this weekend is because you showed an amazing amount of effort and a positive attitude regardless of the outcome of the game! You are the true leaders on your teams, and you are setting a positive example for the rest of us! Thank you for your leadership, and congratulations on your award - you earned it!
Congrats to everyone who placed, and thank you to all of the teams who participated! Pictures of the winning teams will be posted shortly, and we appreciate any additional photos you can share with us!
